We spent the second hottest day of the year in a well air-conditioned bus on our way to Melbourne. The plan: this bus would bring us to a station where we can jump in a train which would drive to Melbourne. But when we arrived on the station there was no train and our bus driver said, there is probably something wrong. He got off the bus and checked the station. It turned out, that the train wasn’t there because of fires. The next three stations were closed, too. In the meanwhile, we could already see the dark clouds of the fire. Soon the colour changed into yellow and a very dark red. The sky was burning! I have never seen something like that before.

Finally, we arrived in Melbourne in the early evening. It was cold and windy. So we were very happy, that we already booked accomodation. When we arrived there, a quite unfriendly man was behind the reception table. He couldn’t find our booking, he didn’t know our names and he was not very enthusiastic about helping us. But he suggested, we should go to another place with a similar name.

Hmm, ok. I am pretty sure, that this is the right place but when he couldn’t find anything perhaps I am wrong. He sent us almost thru the whole city. We had to walk with all our stuff UPHILL thru China town to this other place. I saw it and I knew, we were wrong. But we tried it. We called the receptionist and Peero (as we got to know later) came downstairs. No, he is so sorry, there is no booking for us. But that is no reason not to stay here. Nice idea, but we already paid a deposit. Not a problem, he can help us. Let’s have a look in the internet. So we checked our booking and we found a confirmation in my emails. Peero called the hotel, explained them everything, gave them the booking number and suddenly we had a bed for the night. Peero was very sad, that we were leaving again but he gave us his phone number.

Well, we went back with all our stuff to the same place where we were an hour ago. Again thru China town, down hill this time but it was not a pleasure. When we arrived the second time in this hotel there was still this unfriendly man and he said: “Welcome back (no smile). Are you sure you booked here?”
WHAT? Now it is almost time to kill you! Anyway, we checked in and after some time we also could find the room for backpackers at the other end of the hotel. We just went to bed and tried to sleep. Not to easy when the light is switched on the whole night. In the morning we had a look at this room. Wow. There are – lets count – more then 10 beds instead of 7. Hey, there is mould on the wall. They have exactly 2 bathrooms for more than 20 girls?

That’s enough! So we started looking for another hostel with nice staff and clean rooms. Around 4 o’clock we packed our stuff and moved to Peero’s hostel.
Welcome back (SMILE!)
