Welcome to Sydney!
But before we could say this, we had to get up at 3:30 a.m. last Thursday to catch the plane to Sydney. After a nice flight we arrived in Sydney and met Andrew. This is the nice guy who offered us his appartement for accomodation. Now we are sleeping in a complete empty room on the floor but it is warm and dry --> it has a roof! Besides, this great appartement is very close to the city. So we can walk to all important spots and to the Harbour, the Opera, the Bridge ....
The first few days we spent with sightseeing. We walked through the Botanic Garden, visited the Opera and the Harbour Bridge, drove up to Sydney Tower to have a great view over the city. On the 30th December we decided to have our first New Years Eve and so we had a great (not too expensiv - promise) dinner at the Quay next to the Opera. Great!
New Year we decided to go very early to the spot where we would like to see the fireworks - next to the Harbour Bridge again, of course. We spent a great day there, sitting on the lawn, writing, talking, sleeping and waiting for the evening. We had quite good entertainment because of the people next to us. We looked at the typical australian behaviour on such a day and we had a nice cricket game in front of us. Even police men were enthusiastic about that and played with the boys on the street.
The fireworks were just fantastic! We have no words to describe (we would have in German but not in English without dictionary :) But we try:
amazing, fantastic, awesome, beautiful, loud!, gorgeous (if you can describe fireworks with that word)
Good bye from Nicole and Jenny
